TYPE LOCALITY: Chile, Valparaiso Prov .
DISTRIBUTION: Chile, west of the Andes between 27° and 36°S.
STATUS: Locally common, very fossorial.
SYNONYMS: ater, maulinus , noctivagus, poeppigii , tabanus.
COMMENTS: Includes tabanus (Cabrera, 1961:517; Corbet and Hill, 1991:203). Chromosome no. is 2n = 58.
