Othonna parviflora Linnaeus View in CoL , Mantissa Plantarum Altera: 289. 1771, nom. illeg.
"Habitat ad Cap. b. spei locis aquosis, florens Majo." RCN: 6697.
Replaced synonym: Senecio rigens L. (1763) .
Lectotype (Wijnands, Bot. Commelins: 84. 1983): [icon] " Jacobaea Africana frutescens folio longo et glauco " in Commelin, Hort. Med. Amstelod. Pl. Rar. 2: 143, t. 72. 1701.
Current name: Senecio rigens L. View in CoL ( Asteraceae ).
Note: Linnaeus’ protologue for this name included both Senecio rigens L. (1763) and O. parviflora P.J. Bergius (1767) , which Levyns (in J. S. African Bot. 7: 143. 1941) believed to represent different taxa. Wijnands (Bot. Commelins: 83-84. 1983) has confirmed this through typification, O. parviflora L. being homotypic, and synonymous, with S. rigens (which is the correct name for the species). Wijnands typified O. parviflora P.J. Bergius in the sense of what had been called O. amplexicaulis Thunb. (1800) . Othonna parviflora L. is a later homonym of O. parviflora P.J. Bergius , and illegitimate.
