Cephennomicrus nagoanus Jałoszyński View in CoL
( Figs 7 View FIGURES 1–7 , 8 View FIGURE 8 )
Cephennomicrus nagoanus Jałoszyński, 2009a: 12 View in CoL View Cited Treatment .
Material studied. 1 ♂, Japan, Okinawa Prefecture, Okinawa Island, Ōgimi-son, Nekumachiji-dake , 320 m, 26.03.2018, leg. N. Tokushige (cPJ) ; 1 ♂, Okinawa Island, Nago Castle Site , 12.02.2023, leg. P. Jałoszyński (cPJ) .
Remarks. This species was described based on a specimen collected on Mt. Nago-dake near Nago-shi City, and the Nago Castle Site is a hill located in close proximity. The site on Nekumachiji-dake is north-east of Nago, and it is likely that C. nagoanus is broader distributed at least in forests of northern Okinawa-jima. Judging from a study of large samples of soil-inhabiting beetles coming from various places on Okinawa Is., C. nagoanus , as all remaining Okinawan species of Cephennomicrus , is rare and difficult to find.
The aedeagus illustrated in Fig. 7 View FIGURES 1–7 is in an early phase of erection, with the endophallus displaced distally, but not fully exserted. In the holotype, the endophallus with two lateral darkly sclerotized elongate components is situated near the distal 1/3 of the aedeagus, and the very apex of the median lobe has a similar pair of dark lateral subapical sclerites, distant from the endophallic ones. The aedeagus in Fig. 7 View FIGURES 1–7 has the same structures, but because of the distal position of the endophallus, the dark endophallic and similar lateral subapical sclerites appear as touching each other. Among Japanese species, only C. iriomotensis belongs to the same Cephennomicrus taiwanensis group, but its aedeagus has a clearly different endophallus ( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 ).
