Type citation:—“Hab. Pulney mountains, in wet swampy ground, at an elevation of about 5,500 feet.”

Type:— INDIA. Tamil Nadu: Pulney Mountains, September 1836, Wight 339 (lectotype K000694966 !, designated here; isolectotype K000694967 !) .

Residual syntypes: — INDIA. Without precise locality, s.d., Wight s.n. ( K000694965 !) ; Peninsula Indiae Orientalis , s.d., Wight 339 ( M0211739 ! and P04538768 !) .

Distribution:— India, endemic (Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu).

Notes:—While describing Impatiens viscida, Wight (1837) mentioned only precise locality ‘Pulney mountains’ in the protologue. Pertaining to the specification given in the protologue, five specimens of this species collected by Wight were traced (K000694965 ‒ 000694967, M0211739 and P04538768). Of these, the better preserved specimen K000694966, is designated here as the lectotype as it agrees well with the protologue and also in having dissected flower parts pasted on the sheet by younger Hooker.
