Holotype: Male, P. R. CHINA: Sichuan Province, Daocheng County (29° 1 N, 100° 18 E), alt. 40–64 m, 20. IV 1988, sweep net, X. Wang, slide no. 11779.

Etymology: From Latin crista, ridge, referring to the well developed crista dorsalis on the gonostylus.

Distribution: The specimen was collected by sweep netting in a subtropical area in an oriental Chinese province.

Remarks: The prominent sclerotized, bare inferior volsella, combined with the absence of an oral projection on the sternapodeme; the short, broad anal point; and obvious crista dorsalis on the gonostylus separate P. cristatus sp. nov. from other known species of the genus.
