Ephialtes imperator Kriechbaumer, 1854: 156 . Lectotype: female; TD: ZSM. Ephialtes occidentalis Cresson, 1865: 269 . Lectotype: female; TD: ANSP.

Diagnosis. Body 18–34 mm; fore wing 15–21.5 mm; ovipositor 26–42 mm long.

Body black. Palpi yellow; tegula dark yellow. Coxae and femora reddish brown; trochanters and trochantellus paler than coxae; tibiae and tarsi of fore and mid legs brown. Hind tibia and tarsus dark blackish brown. Antenna with 33–38 flagellomeres.

Head rounded, slightly narrowing behind eyes in dorsal view. Face scattered punctate and convex. Frons with wrinkles. Malar space granulate, 0.5 × as long as mandible base. Occiput narrow, scattered punctate. Pronotum with wrinkles on ventral area. Speculum convex and glabrous; mesopleural pit distinct. Prepectal carina extending above lower corner of pronotum and curved forward, weakly reaching anterior margin of mesopleuron. Mesopleuron moderately punctate. Propodeum coarsely punctate; median part of propodeum concave; apical part of propodeum with transversal wrinkles. Fifth hind tarsus shorter than third tarsus. First, second, and third tergites distinctly elongate, fourth tergite elongate and transverse. Petiole with spiracle before the middle of petiole. First sternite reaching middle of first tergite with transversal striae. Dorsal lobe of ovipositor with two widely transverse ridges.
