Distribution: —Southern Armenia, Zangezur mountain range (Syunik province) ( Fig. 19).
Habitat: —Slopes near serpentine roadside, with south and south-eastern exposure, with landslide soil and sparse vegetation, ca. 2300 m.
Hosts: — Tragopogon pterocarpus DC. ( Asteraceae ).
Phenology: —Flowering end of May–June, fruiting in June–July.
Conservation status: —Critically Endangered (CR) – B 1 ab (iii) + 2 ab (iii); D. So far, known only from Armenia. Only one location is known. The population is small, includes over 10 shoots (in 2016). Limiting factors are restricted EOO and AOO, predicted climate change, and proximity to the main road.
Notes: —Some similarity may exist with other hairy and unbranched species such as Phelipanche pulchella , P. hajastanica or P. caesia . However, P. zangezuri differs from these species very clearly in several characteristics (detailed and comparative table in Piwowarczyk et al. 2018a).
