44. Culex seneveti Clastrier, 1970b: 464 View in CoL (M).
Holotype M: Forêt de Cabassou, [ Island of] Cayenne , French Guiana ( MNHP); coll. J. Clastrier; 15 June 1968; no. 3328-47.
Culex seneveti was synonymized with Cx. contei Duret by Sirivanakarn (1983: 274). Despite all of our efforts, the holotype was not found. Because the holotype (pinned male and microscope slide with the dissected genitalia) and one paratype (no. 3345-5, microscope slide with the male genitalia only) were returned to J. Clastrier in 1987 (J. Pecor, personal communication), we consider that this type material is probably misplaced in the MNHP. Nine paratypes, (no. 3248-14, 3248-27 (both only male genitalia on microscope slides), 3248-28, 3256-9, 3345-40, 3345- 42, 3345-45, 3328-48 and 3328-59 are still in the NMNH (D. Pecor, personal communication). One other paratype (no. 3478-28, microscope slide with male genitalia only) was found the IRD during this study.
