Holotype M: Forêt de Cabassou , [Island of Cayenne], French Guiana ( MNHP); coll. J. Clastrier; 4 Sept. 1967; no. 3247-21.
Despite all of our efforts, the holotype of Cx. caudatus was not found. Because the holotype (pinned male and microscope slide with the dissected genitalia) was returned to J. Clastrier in 1987 (J. Pecor, personal communication), we consider that this specimen is probably misplaced in the MNHP. The paratype of this species (no. 3242-15, microscope slide with the male genitalia only) is still in the NMNH (D. Pecor, personal communication).
