Description. Material examined. Holotype male: Brazil, Minas Gerais State, Cabo Verde, Fazenda da Cata, 21°27’09”S, 46°20’53”W, 598m, 11 August–13 October 2007, Malaise trap in forest, Amorim, Oliveira, Capellari. Paratypes: same data but 12 males, 5 females, 10–23 September 2006, Amorim, Ribeiro, Falaschi, Oliveira; 15 males, 6 females, 23 September–15 October 2006, Amorim, Ribeiro, Falaschi, Oliveira; 12 males, 11 females, 11 August–13 October 2007, Amorim, Oliveira, Capellari.

Measurements. Male: antenna length, median 8.6mm (N=67), maximum, 9.2mm; forewing length, 7.5–9.2mm (mean 8.31mm, N=71); head width, 0.98–1.14mm (mean 1.077, N=71), cercomeres, median 13 (N= 137), maximum 14. Female: antenna length, median 9.8mm (N=31), maximum 10.4mm; forewing length, 8.6–10.3mm (mean 9.67mm, N=32); head width, 1.12–1.30mm (mean 1.202mm, N=32); cercomeres, median 11 (N=61), maximum 13.

Adult habitus. General colour light ochraceous to light brown, males slightly darker. Pronotum lighter than head. Pleural area of thorax brownish. Tarsi and tibiae darker in some specimens. Wings similar in colour as body, darker patterns bordering veins and crossveins often subdued, more apparent in darker specimens.

Male ( Figs. 1–4 View FIGURES 1 – 3 View FIGURES 4 – 5 ). Apically, subgenital plate triangular ( Figs. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 3 , 4 View FIGURES 4 – 5 ). T10 extension divided into two large arms, each ending in a curved apex ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 3 ). Ascending arms of paraprocts not broad, but towards apex a lateral extension ends in a curved point ( Figs. 1–3 View FIGURES 1 – 3 ). Medial portions ascend to level of median part of T10 extension and also terminate in a small point ( Fig.4 View FIGURES 4 – 5 ).

Female ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 4 – 5 ). Subgenital plate medium in length, base broadest, narrowing toward apex, but subapically broadening slightly, apically with a wide notch.

Remarks. Tupiperla amorimi is distinguished in the male by the large, forked T10 extension and by the complex paraprocts. The paraprocts have an acute lateral extension and a medial dorsal section that terminates at the base of the T10 fork. Other species with large T10 forks are T. oliveirai Froehlich 1998 and T. froehlichi Bispo & Lecci, 2011 . In T. oliveirai the arms of the fork form a smaller angle and the paraprocts are much thicker and simple. In T. froehlichi the fork is smaller and the paraprocts are simple and thin.

Etymology. The specific name honours Dr. Dalton de Souza Amorim, noted dipterist and collector of the specimens.
