Recognition. This species is similar in colour to the other Central American species and can be distinguished by the clasping cercus somewhat slender, longer than the height of the epandrium and the posterior margin is broadly expanded.

Description. Wing length 2.6–3.0 mm. Male. Face and gena without bluish pubescence. Ocellar setae divergent, subequal in length to pprn; vertical seta subequal in length to ocellar seta. Antenna with short stylus, slightly longer than postpedicel; postpedicel ovate, shortly prolonged apically. Length of proboscis slightly shorter than head height.

Pleura pale brown without bluish pruinescence; prescutellar depression without pruinescence, postalar ridge paler than scutum; several acr, very short, anterior to second pair of dc; 5 dc, long, prescutellar dc longest; 1 pprn; 1 presut spal; 2 npl; 0 psut spal; 1 pal; 2 sctl, longer than prescutellar dc and numerous setulae on disc and margin, outer marginal setulae one-third length of apical seta; laterotergite with several setae; antepronotum with several setulae; lower proepisternum with pale setae.

Wing infuscate; M 1 and M 2 separated by short crossvein, shorter than crossvein r-m.

Legs brown, with coxae pale brown, concolourous with pleura; coxae without bluish pruinescence. Hind tibia with weak ventral setae.

Abdominal tergites brown, darker than pleura, without bluish pruinescence; bearing short pale setae. Terminalia ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 16–19 ): Hypandrium subequal in length to epandrium, apex rounded; without setae. Phallus straight, with membranous distiphallus (lateral extensions not fully inflated in preparation). Cercal plate with several long setae; clasping cercus somewhat slender, longer than height of epandrium, posterior margin broadly expanded, anterior dorsal corner slightly projecting; thickened setae along inner dorsal margin and upper half of inner face; longer, finer outer setae, arching over posterior margin.

Female. Similar to male.

Etymology. Named after the type locality. The species name is considered a noun in apposition.

Distribution. This species is currently known only from the type locality of San Gerardo de Dota, Costa Rica ( Fig. 31 View FIGURE 31–34 ).

Remarks. The barcode obtained from the holotype (paratype failed to sequence) was highly fragmented with many gaps, so fresh collections are required to confirm the barcode identification of this species.
