Recognition. This species is similar in colour to the other Central American species and can be distinguished by the distinctly prolonged anterior and posterior corners of the clasping cercus.
Description. Wing length 2.2–2.5 mm. Male. Face and gena without bluish pubescence. Ocellar setae divergent, slightly shorter than pprn; vertical seta longer than ocellar seta. Antenna with short stylus, slightly longer than postpedicel; postpedicel ovate, shortly prolonged apically. Length of proboscis slightly shorter than head height.
Pleura pale brown without bluish pruinescence; prescutellar depression without pruinescence, postalar ridge paler than scutum; several acr, very short, anterior to second pair of dc; 5 dc, long, prescutellar dc longest; 1 pprn; 1 presut spal; 2 npl; 0 psut spal; 1 pal; 2 sctl, longer than prescutellar dc and numerous setulae on disc and margin, outer marginal setulae one-third length of apical seta; laterotergite with several setae; antepronotum with several setulae; lower proepisternum with pale setae.
Wing infuscate; cell dm pointed apically, with base of M 1 and M 2 coalesced basally for short to long distance, shorter than length of crossvein r-m, or M 1 and M 2 separated by short crossvein, shorter than crossvein r-m.
Legs brown, with coxae pale brown, concolourous with pleura; coxae without bluish pruinescence. Hind tibia with weak ventral setae.
Abdominal tergites brown, darker than pleura, without bluish pruinescence; bearing short pale setae. Terminalia ( Fig. 18 View FIGURES 16–19 ): Hypandrium subequal in length to epandrium, apex somewhat truncate; without setae. Phallus straight, with membranous distiphallus (lateral extensions not inflated in preparation). Cercal plate with 2 long setae; clasping cercus with distinctly prolonged anterior and posterior corners, longer than height of epandrium; thickened setae along inner dorsal margin; longer, finer outer setae, arching over dorsal margin.
Female. Similar to male except, antennal stylus slightly longer than postpedicel.
Etymology. This species is named after the country of the type locality.
Distribution. This species is currently known only from Costa Rica ( Fig. 31 View FIGURE 31–34 ).
Remarks. A paratype of this new species was collected during the Zurquí cloud forest survey ( Borkent et al. 2018).
