Benstonea ihuana (Martelli) Callm. & Buerki , comb. nov.

Pandanus ihuanus Martelli (1929: 141) . Type :— PAPUA NEW GUINEA. Central Prov. : Vailala River, 14.II.1926, Brass 978 (holotype, A [ A00020041 , A00020042 ] images seen; isotypes, BRI [ BRI-AQ0695558 carpo] image seen, FI [ FI016602 ]!).

Notes:— Benstonea ihuana is easily recognized by its upper part of the pileus dehiscent at maturity and constricted at the base as well as its wide leaves (up to 6 cm). This species is most similar to Benstonea eumekes , but differs by the characters mentioned above. Furthermore, this taxon holds a short woody stipe, which seems to be unique in this group of species. Benstonea ihuana is known only by two collections from Papua New Guinea. Field observations have nevertheless been done in the Foja Mountains by T. Laman (Papua Prov., Indonesia) and near Wagau village (Morobe Prov., Papua New Guinea) by PH ( Fig. 2A–B ).
