The two species of this genus are herbaceous, up to 3 m high with a single large leaf (> 30 cm wide) per shoot. They are confined to the boarders of small water courses. Inflorescences emerge from the base of the stem, fruits are up to 4 cm in diameter and bright red at maturity.
