Genus Lernecella Hebard, 1928
Lernecella Hebard, 1928a: 13 .
Type species. Lernecella trinitatis Hebard, 1928 .
Distribution. Southern Central America, French Guiana and Trinidad.
Diagnosis. See Desutter-Grandcolas (1992a: 122).
Included species. Lernecella trinitatis , Lernecella minuta Desutter-Grandcolas, 1992 , Paraclodes minor Otte, 2006 , Uvaroviella simlense Otte & Perez Gelabert, 2009 , Uvaroviella mirabilis Otte & Perez Gelabert, 2009 , Uvaroviella erinys Otte & Perez Gelabert, 2009 .
Phylogenetic relationships. In the phylogenetic hypothesis of Chintauan-Marquier et al. (submit.), Lernecella is the sistergroup of a wide assemblage including all the genera classified presently in the Luzarinae according to the Orthoptera Species File, in addition to Phalangopsis and Philippopsis . Desutter-Grandcolas (1992a) concluded that Lernecella may belong to another species group, different from those already defined within the Luzarinae ; this hypothesis is supported by the molecular evidence.
