Type species. Phytoptus pyri Pagenstecher, 1857: 48 .
Diagnosis. Body vermiform; scapular tubercles and setae present, scapular setae (sc) directed anteriorly, anterior shield lobe absent; opsithosoma with standard setae, dorsoventral annuli subequal; legs with usual setae, empodium entire.
This genus consists of 299 species ( Amrine et al. 2003). Only 18 species have been recorded from Southeast Asia.
