Characterized by opposite pinnae and pinnules, often with large stipule-like pinnules overlapping the rachis at the pinna bases. Rhizomes long-creeping, bearing proscales and/or hairs. Leaves large, often 1 m long or more. Blades 2-to 4-pinnate, glabrous, sometimes glaucous; veins free to usually anastomosing without included veinlets. Sori marginal, borne on commissural veins connecting the vein ends and each covered by a modified reflexed margin (pseudo-indusium). Spores ellipsoid, monolete. A pantropical genus with 5–7 species, with at least four species in southeastern Asia and the South Pacific, and one extremely variable species in the Neotropics.
