Hypolepis flexuosa Sodiro, Crypt. Vasc. Quit. View in CoL 634. 1893.
Range:— Costa Rica; Andes from Colombia and Venezuela to Bolivia (CO, LP, SC); possibly also in other Mesoamerican countries and Jamaica ( Proctor 1985, Moran 1995, as “ H. bogotensis ”).
Ecology:— Common; erect to scandent terrestrial, in semihumid to humid forests, especially in open locations; 2700–3600 m, 2000–4100 m elsewhere.
Notes:— Hypolepis flexuosa has long been considered a synonym of H. bogotensis H.Karst. , which is endemic to the Bogota Cordillera in Colombia. Hypolepis flexuosa is characterized by large leaves (to 6 m long) with intermittent growth, inermous petioles and rachises, 4-pinnate-pinnatifid to 5-pinnate blades, and commonly lanose laminar axes.
