Paesia A.St. View in CoL -Hil., Voy. Distr. Diam. 1: 381. 1833.
Recognized by long-creeping, hairy rhizomes, scandent, up to 4-pinnate-pinnatifid blades, and small indusia (hidden by fully mature sporangia). Paesia is most similar to Hypolepis , which differs by lacking abaxial (inner) indusia, having only one vein serving each sorus (vs. several in Paesia ), and often being spiny. Paesia is infrequently collected and needs a modern revision. A pantropical genus with about 15 (though perhaps only as few as 5) species (PPG I 2016), 3 of these in the Neotropics.
