Microlepia C.Presl, Tent. Pterid. View in CoL 124–125, pl. 4, f. 21–23. 1836.
Microlepia has hairy, creeping rhizomes and submarginal sori with conic indusia emerging from the abaxial blade surfaces (vs. formed by the recurved margin or cup-shaped in most other Dennstaedtiaceae ). Blades are generally large, lanceolate to deltate, broadest at or near the base, and often bear numerous acicular, septate or catenate hairs, not unlike hairs found in some Thelypteridaceae ; the indusia are also pubescent. A genus of about 60 species (PPG I 2016), mainly in southeastern Asia, with 1 species in Africa and the Neotropics.
Molecular studies suggest that Microlepia is sister to an Old World clade of Dennstaedtia ( Perrie et al. 2015) .
