Hypolepis repens View in CoL (L.) C.Presl, Tent. Pterid. 162. 1836.
Range:— Widespread in the Neotropics, from USA (Florida), Mexico, and Antilles, southward to Bolivia (CO, LP), Paraguay, and southeastern Brazil.
Ecology:— Rare in Bolivia, common elsewhere; erect to scandent terrestrial, in semihumid to humid forests, especially in open locations; 500–900 m, 50–1800 m elsewhere.
Notes:— Hypolepis repens is the most widespread species of the genus in the Neotropics but is rarely found in Bolivia. It is easily identified by the following combinations of characters: medium-sized to large leaves (1.5–3 × 1– 1.4 m), spiny petioles and rachises, laminar axes bearing only catenate hairs and trichomidia (glandular hairs absent), glabrous laminar tissue between the veins, and hyaline pseudo-indusia with smooth to slightly crenate margins (never ciliate)—see also notes under H. parallelogramma .
