Type:— PERU. Loreto: Maynas, Mishana, Río Nanay halfway between Iquitos and Santa María de Nanay, upland forest on withe sand, 12–13 Jan 1983, ♀ (fl), Gentry et al. 39447 (holotype, MO).

Note:—The fossil-species Ocotea alata Givulescu , based on the fossil fruits from the European Miocene (Pannonian B) sediments of Delureni (Bihor, Romania), is a senior homonym of the extant species, Ocotea alata van der Werff ; therefore, a new replacement name is introduced for extant species.

Eponymy:— Alaris , alternate synonym of Alatus, Lat.
