Type:—[fossil fruits] Gerstungen, Wartburg district, Thuringia, Germany (holotype, MMG Mai 6705, Senckenberg Naturhistorische Sammlungen, Dresden, Germany)—figured by Mai & Walther 1988: pl. 28, fig. 18.

Occurrence:—Pliocene; Europe.

Eponymy:—In honour of D. Mai.

Note:—The Pliocene fossil-species was established on the fossil fruits with seeds with a similarity to extant species E. fimbriatum Hutch.
