Type locality. Calabria, Reggio Calabria, Aspromonte Mountains , Montalto ( Fig. 262 View FIGURES 259–262 ) .
Diagnosis. A medium to large size Solariola (TL: 3.0 0–3.80 mm; BL: 2.45–3.10 mm) belonging to the paganettii group with slender body shape. Within the species group, it is recognisable by the large size, pronotum elongate, elytra elongate with small and spaced punctures. Rostrum elongate and slender (RL: 0.40–0.60 mm, RW: 0.30–0.40 mm, RL/RW: 1.33–1.50). Mesorostrum carinae slightly divergent to sides. Forehead convex (FW/MW: 2.00–2.00). Submentum and laterally mesorostrum with a few, short, whitish-yellowish pappolepida. Antennae long and thin (SL: 0.55–0.72 mm, FL: 0.75–1.05 mm, SL/FL: 0.69–0.73). Pronotum longer than wide (PL: 0.65–0.82 mm, PW: 0.55–0.78 mm, PL/PW: 1.05–1.18) without echinopappolepida at base. Elongate, sub-parallel elytra, dorsally vault- ed (EL: 1.75–2.30 mm, EW: 0.85–1.10 mm, EL/EW: 2.06–2.10) with thin, slightly elongate, raised setae.

Holotype description. Male. See Figs 36, 36a, 36b, 36c, 36d, 36e View FIGURES 36–36 . Elongate body ( TL: 3.25 mm, BL: 3.10 mm). Reddish-brownish cuticle.
Rostrum elongate and slender (RL: 0.55 mm, RW: 0.38 mm, RL/RW: 1.45), conical to sides with pterygium expanded. Epistome absent. Mesorostrum carinae divergent to sides. Submentum with few, short and yellowish pappolepida, not visible around mesorostrum. Interocular pit visible. Forehead convex (FW/MW: 2.00). Vestigial eyes, flat, visible.
Antennae quite thin and elongate (SL: 0.70 mm, FL: 1.00 mm, SL/FL: 0.70). Funicle with second segment longer than the first; AS ratio: 7.8.4.4.3.3.3.15. Scape clubbed, slightly more robust than funicle, curved at proximal third and progressively thickening towards apex. Funicle quite long and thin; all segments with elongate and thin setae. Club three-segmented, fusiform, in length more than twice the width, densely covered by thin setae.
Pronotum longer than wide (PL: 0.80 mm, PW: 0.70 mm, PL/PW: 1.14), wider at middle and without echinopappolepida at base. Scutellum visible.
Elytra elongate, sub-parallel to sides, dorsally vaulted (EL: 2.25 mm, EW: 1.07 mm, EL/EW: 2.10), wider at middle with flat suture. Humeri rounded. Striae with 14 punctures, catenulate, spaced, very small, not deep. Interstriae flat with thin, elongate, semi-erect setae. Elytral declivity <60 degrees.
Legs short and robust with clubbed femora. Protibia with six acute spines on inner edge and an evident mucro on inner apical angle. Protibia sinuous on inner edge and slightly curved in side view. Metatibia and mesotibia straight in side view. All tibia with noticeable apical comb. Tarsal segment 1 short, conical; segment 2 short and transverse; segment 3 very bilobed; all segments with thin golden setae. Onychium curved, robust and short with one short claw.

Sexual dimorphism. Males can usually be recognized by their smaller size, slender appearance, more rounded humeri, legs stronger with a more noticeable apical mucro, and ventrites 1 and 2 slightly hollowed.
Paratypes variability. Paratypes, sexual dimorphism excluded, are similar to the holotype but differs in size.
Distribution. See Figs. 223, 223a. Italian endemic. Known from Aspromonte Mountains, near type locality “Montalto” at 600–1850 meters of elevation.
Etymology. This species is named after Margherita (Pogliano), the wife of one of us (Osella), in appreciation and gratitude of her availability and cooperation to the field research.
Ecology and Phenology. Were collected adults of S. margaritae under stone or tearing and crumbling clods of grass.
Main soil type. Distric Cambisol ( European Soil Data Centre; Panagos et al. 2012) .
Reproduction. Amphigonic.
Associated species. Sympatric with Pseudomeira obscura (A. & F. Solari, 1907).
