Type species: Siphonops indistinctus Reinhardt & Lütken, 1861 by original monotypy. Diagnosis: The only typhlonectids with ovate external nares.

Distribution: Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Uruguay.

Content: Eight species ( arii , braestrupi , exile , indistinctum , noctinectes , onorei , perissodus , viviparum ).
