Type species - Thrypticomyia aureipennis Skuse, 1890 (monotypic).
Genus previously not recorded from the Korean Peninsula.
General: Small crane flies, body length 5.0-6.0 mm.
A
Body yellow, brown to dark brown. Mesonotum gibbous.
Head: Eyes widely separated. Antena medium-long, nearly reaching wing base, if bent backwards.
Wing: Long and narrow, especially extended basal part. Humeral vein distinctly before arculus. Sc short, tip of Sc 1 reaching base of Rs. Sc 2 at or before tip of Sc 1. Radial sector long, arched at base. R 1 elongate, often with short branches. R 2 at right angle to R 1. Discal cell elongate. Basal deflection of CuA 1 at or beyond middle of discal cell. Longitudinal wrinkle beyond Cu (remains of Cu 2) totally missing. Anal lobe totally reduced.
Legs: Very long, tarsi white. Abdomen elongate.
Genitalia: Male genitalia with two pairs of gonostyles. Inner gonostylus rounded, fleshy with rostral appendage. Rostrum armed with two spines. Outer gonostylus narrow, arched, strongly sclerotised. Gonocoxite with very long ventro-mesal subapical lobe, that extends distinctly beyond gonostyles. Ovipositor with tenth tergite elongate. Cercus long and narrow, slightly arched. Hypovalva elongate, wide at base, distinctly narrower distally.
Elevation range in Korea: Sea level to nearly 1,700 m.
Period of activity in Korea: Beginning of June through September.
Bionomics: Mountainous river slopes covered by deciduous forests and shrubs.
Genus includes 38 species, 24 are recorded from Australia. Only one species in the Palearctic. Larva and pupa unknown.
