( Figs 35 – 36 View FIGURES 35 – 36 )
Type specimens. Holotype, F, AUSTRALIA: Queensland: JSF, Peter’s Rd, 24.x.1996, O. Seeman, on Mastachilus quaestionis (Kuwert) ( S74040 View Materials ). Paratypes, Southeast Queensland: M, same data as holotype ( S74041 View Materials ); 2 F, LNP, Duck Ck Rd, 20.iii.1995, D. E. Walter ( S74042 View Materials -43); F, M, LNP, Blue Pool, 25.ii.1996, O. Seeman ( S74044 View Materials -45); M, Wishing Tree, LNP, 25.ii.1996, O. Seeman (S74046); F, Cunningham’s Gap, Main Range National Park, 11.ii.1996, O. Seeman ( S74047 View Materials ). All collected from M. quaestionis and deposited in QM. M, Wishing Tree, LNP, 25.ii.1996, O. Seeman, deposited in ANIC.
Diagnosis. Both sexes: idiosoma 1000 –1040 long, with 3–4 large pores; ventral shield lineate-reticulate laterally, smooth medially, ventrianal and marginal shields weakly reticulate; anterolateral corner of ventrianal shield not fused with ventral shield; exopodal patterning between CxII–III spotted; pedofossae III absent; CxIV-marginal suture absent; femur III and IV without lamellae, seta pv1 not significantly thickened; femur IV not elongated. Female: setae st2-4 minute; lyrifissure stp2 posterior to stp x; sternogynial shield weakly reticulate, but not honeycomb-like, not flanked by pores, not surrounded by a distinct smooth area. Male: sternoventral shield without suture behind genital opening; genital opening flanked by one pair of pores; seta h1 with bulbous base; seta h3 anterior of h2.
Description. Female: Idiosoma 1000 –1040 long, 720–740 wide, with 3–4 large pores medially; anterior hyaline projection with 1 pair barbed setae 86–98 long. Marginal setae 6–8 long. Tritosternum base 54–60 long, 55–60 wide. Tetartosternum and sternal shield smooth; tetartosternum crown-shaped; st1 smooth, 19–26 long; st2-4 minute; posterolateral margin of sternal shield broadly pointed, st3-4 3–5 from posterior margin, pore stp x anterior of stp2. Sternogynial shield 173–176 long, 162–172 wide, smooth, with 7–8 pores flanking shield. Ventral shield lineate laterally, reticulate medially, with a large pore between CxIII–IV, a large pore (12–15 diameter) posteromedial of CxIV, 2 pairs of small eye-like pores, ca. 8 pairs of small round pores, and 9–10 pairs of setae, the most posterior and lateral are 5–10 long. Ventrianal shield 215–220 long, 540–550 wide, with fine lineate network of reticulation, paranal setae 37–42 long, other setae about 10 long; anterolateral corner of ventrianal shield not fused with ventral shield. Marginal shields with lineate reticulation.
Legs. TrI with seta pv1 with minute barbs, not thicker than seta av1. FeI with seta pv3 similar to seta pv1 and pv2. FeII with lamella distal to seta pv1, seta ad1 with small barbs, thickened. FeIII without lamella, seta pv1 not spine-like. FeIV not enlarged, 108 long, 88 wide at distal end, without lamella, seta pv1 not spine-like, seta pd2 just proximal to seta ad2. TaII with seta av2 spine-like, longer than seta av3; TaIII with seta av2 thickened, subequal to seta av3. Legs II–IV with setiform ad and pd setae.
Gnathosoma . Seta h1 smooth, straight, 53–60 long, distance between h1–h1 35; h2 smooth, 50–52 long; h 3 10–11 long, posterolaterad h2; palpcoxal seta 14–16 long. Corniculi on tubercles 10–12 long. Palp, seta av1 on trochanter with 5–7 branches, seta av2 smooth, spur pointed, with two tiny accessory spines. Chelicera, fixed digit 208–210 long, movable digit 46–48 long; fixed digit with 2 large and 2 minute teeth; excrescences arise from an enlarged base of digit and consist of a large brush-like process, a 100 long ribbon-like process with a serrate edge and a toothed edge, and a similar 75 long process with a crenate and toothed edge; processes extend well beyond end of chelicerae.
Male: Idiosoma 1000 –1030 long, 700–715 wide. Tritosternal base 34 long at midline, 124 wide; st1 smooth, 32–34 long; st2 6–7 long; st3 smooth, 12 long. Genital opening 60–62 long, 78–80 wide. Suture behind genital opening absent. Gnathosoma . Seta h3 8–9 long, just anterior h2 and closer to midline than h2. Seta h1 with a swollen base.
Etymology. The body setae of this species are generally much smaller than other species of Fedrizzia , hence the name parvipilus , which is roughly “short-hair” in Latin.
