Dendrepidosis lapponica View in CoL sp. nov.
Figs 10–11 View FIGURES 10–13
Diagnosis. This new Dendrepidosis is characterized by the following male genitalic characters in combination ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 10–13 ). The parameres, which consist of a broad, flat portion anteriorly and a narrow, tusk-shaped portion posteri- orly, are interconnected by a broad, sclerotized transverse bridge; the parameral apices are single-pointed (↓ 1). The gonostylus, which is less convex and less strongly bent compared with the gonostyli of other Dendrepidosis , has a small, simple tooth apically (↓ 2). The small, perfectly U-shaped gonocoxal emargination is all round reinforced by a sclerotized margin (↓ 3). Females and preimaginal stages of D. lapponica are unknown.
Other male characters. Body size 2.0 mm. Head. Eye bridge 2–3 ommatidia long at vertex. Scape and pedicel somewhat lighter than flagellum. 10 flagellomeres retained, all with circumfila. Neck of fourth flagellomere 1.5 times as long as node; node twice as long as broad ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 10–13 ). Palpus slightly longer than head height, 4 setose, subcylindrical segments, apical segment longest of all. Thorax. Pronotum with 4–5 setae; anepisternum with 2 setae; anepimeron with 3–4 setae. Wing markedly longer than body. Length / width ratio 2.8. M 1+2 absent; M 4 separate from CuA. Legs. Foreleg: femur as long as tibia, tibia slightly longer than T 2. Claws with 1 strong and 2–3 fine teeth basally. Empodia vestigial. Genitalia ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 10–13 ). Ninth tergite with broadly rounded posterior edge. Gonocoxal synsclerite densely setose ventrally except a narrow stripe below the emargination; dorsoposterior portions angular, protruding beyond ventral portions. Aedeagal apodeme about as long as parameres, slightly narrowed apically; accessory gland ducts unusually distinct.
Etymology. The species epithet refers to Lapland, the region in northern Fennoscandia where the holotype specimen was collected.
