Dendrepidosis upplandica View in CoL sp. nov.

Figs 12–13 View FIGURES 10–13

Diagnosis. The male genitalia of D. upplandica ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 10–13 ) are superficially similar to that of D. longipennis ( Jaschhof & Jaschhof 2013: fig. 81), particularly regarding the outline of the gonostylus and gonocoxae. Several details, however, are clearly different. As a peculiarity of D. upplandica , the gonocoxal emargination is filled by a vaguely contoured membrane (↓ 4) whose texture reminds one of the thin, variously creased gonocoxal processes found in other porricondyline genera, particularly Divellepidosis (see Jaschhof & Jaschhof 2013: fig. 83C). Anteriorly, this membrane transitions into a sclerotized, glabrous area, which has one to four pale, roundish windows (↓ 5); those are otherwise known to us only from Spungisomyia fenestrata Jaschhof ( Jaschhof & Jaschhof 2013: fig. 124B). Other distinctions are the number of gonostylar teeth, one in D. upplandica (↓ 6) against two in D. longipennis ; and the parameral apices, which in D. longipennis have a two-pointed appendage that is missing in D. upplandica . Females and preimaginal stages of D. upplandica are unknown.

Other male characters. Body size 2.8–3.3 mm. Head. Eye bridge 1–2 ommatidia long at vertex. Scape and pedicel somewhat lighter than flagellum. Circumfila on flagellomeres 1–10, rarely –12. Neck of fourth flagellomere 1.3 times as long as node; node twice as long as broad ( Fig. 13 View FIGURES 10–13 ). Palpus shorter than head height, 4 setose, subcylindrical segments, apical segment longest of all. Thorax. Pronotum with 5–6 setae; anepisternum non-setose; anepimeron with 0–3 setae. Wing markedly longer than body. Length / width ratio 2.6. M 1+2 absent; M 4 almost touching CuA. Legs. Foreleg: femur as long as tibia, tibia 1.2 times as long as T 2. Claws with 1 strong and 2–3 fine teeth basally. Empodia vestigial. Genitalia ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 10–13 ). Ninth tergum subtrapezoid, with 2 sclerotized, setose portions laterally separated by a wide, membranous, non-setose portion. Gonocoxal synsclerite much broader than long; dorsoposterior portions rounded, protruding beyond ventral portions; dorsal apodemes short compared with other Dendrepidosis . Gonostylus strongly convex, curved inwards, about 2 inconspicuous subapical bristles. Aedeagal apodeme about as long as gonocoxae, slightly narrowed apically; accessory gland ducts indistinct. Parameral apex single-pointed, looking like as if broken in all specimens studied.

Etymology. The specific name refers to Uppland, the region in eastern central Sweden where all the specimens known of this species were collected.

Type material. Holotype. Male , Sweden, Uppland , Håbo , Biskops-Arnö, elm grove, 15–28 June 2004, Malaise trap, Swedish Malaise Trap Project (trap 8, collecting event 1557) (spn. CEC 1956 in NHRS) . Paratypes. 1 male, same data as the holotype (spn. CEC 1958 in SDEI) ; 6 males, same locality but 18 June–4 July 2003 (collecting event 389) (spns CEC2270 – CEC 2273 in NHRS, CEC2274 – CEC 2275 in SDEI) ; 2 males, same locality but 28 June–13 July 2004 (collecting event 1558) (spns CEC2276 – CEC 2277 in SDEI) ; 1 male, same locality but 20 May–20 June 2005 (collecting event 1601) (spn. CEC 1957 in SDEI) .
