Type locality and specimens. Gymnas. Johann. 1 Exemplar.—Fundort [locality]: Rosario.

Dimensions. Körperlänge [body length] 58 [mm]; Kopflänge 4,9; Halsbreite 5,5 mm. [length of head 4.9 mm, width of neck 5.5 mm].

Preservation. 1 jar: Label 1. Scolopocryptops megacephalus […] Rosario Hamburg Gymn. 67; Label 2. Scolopocryptops melanostomus Newp. Orig. zu Sc. megacephalus Kohlr. Rosario.

Old type catalogue. Weidner (1960), p. 71, No. 87. Holotype.

Collection remarks. The specimen was originally part of the collection of the Gymnasium Johanneum in Hamburg (later on ZMH).

Taxonomic remarks. Scolopocryptops megacephalus is not listed by Bonato et al. (2016) as a synonym of Scolopocryptops melanostoma but as mentioned by Chagas-Jr. (2010) it was considered a synonym of Otocryptops melanostomus by Kraepelin (1903: 74) and remains a junior subjective synonym until today (Chagas-Jr. 2010).

Current systematic position. Junior synonym of Scolopocryptops melanostoma (Newport, 1845) according to Kraepelin (1903: 74).

Order Scutigeromorpha Pocock, 1895

A total of 15 type specimens belonging to 5 original type species or subspecies are preserved at the ZMH. The types of one additional species ( Cermatia violacea L. Koch, 1865 = Allothereua maculata (Newport, 1844) are lost.
