Collection remarks. The specimen was collected by Mr. Hüben on behalf of the private Museum Godeffroy in Hamburg.

Additional remarks. Lewis (2010) re-described the species based on specimen ZMH-A0000642 and referred to it as the holotype although the original series comprised four specimens (of which 3 are likely lost). He incorporated information from Kohlrausch’s brief original description (1879) and the amended description of 1881. Kohlrausch’s dissertation in 1878 is cited as the year for the species (Lewis 2010: 8) but, again, this thesis was published only a year later in the Journal des Museum Godeffroy .

Current systematic position. Otostigmus (Otostigmus) astenus ( Kohlrausch, 1879) ; transferred by Pocock (1898: 327) as O. astenon .
