* Hypothenemus brunneus (Hopkins) View in CoL
Stephanoderes brunneus Hopkins, 1915: 31 View in CoL .
Hypothenemus brunneus (Hopkins) View in CoL : Bright 1972: 54.
Bright (2019) considers this as a synonym of H. javanus Eggers View in CoL , though morphological variation between these species, especially in the cuticular texture of the frons, warrants recognition of separate species. There are no previous records of H. brunneus View in CoL from the Pacific islands, but it occurs worldwide in the tropics and sub-tropics.
