This species was first reported in American Samoa (Tutuila) as its synonym X. kraatzi Eichhoff View in CoL by Beeson (1929) and by Schedl (1951a) as X. kraatzi View in CoL and X. testaceus Walker. It is widely distributed in tropical areas around the world, and along with Xyleborinus exiguus View in CoL and Xylosandrus crassiusculus View in CoL , was one of the most common species in traps during this survey.
