Diagnosis. Differs from males and females of all other species by large white feathery hairs lightly but uniformly over carapace ( Fig. 51a, d View FIGURE 51 ).

Description male QM S21790 View Materials

Carapace 3.04 long, 1.80 wide. Abdomen 3.60 long, 1.48 wide. Total length 6.6.

Colour. Carapace brown, femora I, distal II and III brown, other leg segments pale brown; abdomen: cuticle separated, dorsal scute light brown, extends for 4/5ths; wide bush of white feathery hairs laterally down to scute at 1/3. Carapace: light uniform cover of bushy feathery white hairs and feathery black hairs; fovea a short closed groove; long and short incurved hairs mixed with long and short bristles; eight black bristles opposite coxae with similar length bristles nearby. Coxae each with single long bristle and several much shorter. Legs: feathery hairs numerous on femora, few basally on tibiae, few on metatarsi IV. Spines: I: fe p2d4; pa 0; ti v2.2 rest missing. II: fe p3d3r3; pa 0; ti v2.2; me v2.2. III: fe p2d3r4; pa 0; ti p2r2v2.2.2; me p2r2v2.2.2. IV: fe p3d3r4; pa 0; ti p2r2v2.2.2; me p2r2v2.2.2. Palp: fe p1d1; pa apical 1; ti p2 long d1; cymbium p1 long bristle basal, 2 apical, 1 subapical. Abdomen: dorsal scute long, narrow, of varying width anteriorly, widening to straight sides posteriorly; anteriorly, abdomen narrow, dorsal and genital scute close; genital scute extends high laterally without anterior collar or thickening; ventral scute long, posteriorly rounded, ends well short of spiracle. Spiracle marked by transversely oval lightly sclerotised scute. Palp: with distinctly ridged spiral on embolus tip.

Female QM S76575

Carapace 2.48 long, 1.64 wide. Abdomen 3.04 long, 0.95 wide. Total length 6.0. As for ♂ except: abdominal scutes very weak, small. Epigyne: CO small, about 3 diameters apart.

Distribution and Habitat. Known only from open forest woodland west of Townsville north to Forty Mile Scrub, northeastern Queensland. The published type-locality, Cooktown, northeastern Queensland, has proven to be incorrect for Leptopicia bimaculata ( Simon, 1896) and same is likely to be true here.

Remarks. The lectotype female has had the diagnostic hairs rubbed from its carapace over time.
