Remarks. Thomson (1864) described Ibidion (Compsibidion) vanum based on a single specimen from French Guiana. Later, Bates (1870a) described Compsa histrionica based on a single female from Brazil (Amazonas). Martins & Galileo (2007) reported the holotype of C. histrionica as being female, but in doubt; Monné (2024a) as being male; and Tavakilian & Chevillotte (2023) did not indicate the sex. However, Bates (1870a) reported: “Long. 5 lin. [symbol of female] … The specimen is a female.”

Currently, it is known from Mexico (Jalisco, Veracruz, Chiapas, and Tabasco), Guatemala (San Marcos and Escuintla), El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica (Limón and Cartago), Panama ( Panama. Colón, Canal Zone, and Darién), Venezuela (Monagas and Bolívar), Guyana, French Guiana, Peru, Brazil (Amazonas, Pará, Mato Grosso, Goiás, Maranhão, Alagoas, Ceará, Bahia, Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul), Paraguay, and Argentina (Misiones) ( Monné 2024a; Tavakilian & Chevillotte 2023). Paz et al. (2008) reported this species from the Brazilian state of Piauí, which was omitted in Monné (2024a).

Material examined. BRAZIL, Mato Grosso do Sul (new state record): Dourados , 22°16’43.8”S 54°54’10.5”W, 409 m, Malaise 60, 1 female (MNRJ-ENT-47317), 19.II-05.III.2013, T.S. Teles leg. ( MNRJ) GoogleMaps .
