Material examined: BRAZIL: Bahia State, Porto Seguro, Estação Ecológica Pau Brasil 107m, 16˚23'17.6''S; 39˚10'55.6''W, 107m a.s.l., Malaise (Trilha 1), holotype male, 17.v.2002, C.O. Azevedo & eq. (BRPS20: BIOTA- FAPESP), ( MZUSP). Other material as in Andersen et al. (2010:55) .

Diagnostic characters: The imagines differ from other members of the genus by having only twelve flagellomeres, two scalpellate acrostichals, and white tergites 3–5. The wing length is only 0.55 mm, the AR 0.32, there is no superior volsella, the inferior volsella is sharply triangular and the anal point minute. Although the scalpellate acrostichals would mean that the species does not belong in Pseudosmittia it is placed here since other details conform with the genus. In the phylogenetic analysis by Pinho et al. (2009) the species becomes the sister group of Diplosmittia Saether , but that primarily is due to the scalpellate acrostichals only.

The male is described by Andersen, Saether & Mendes (2010: 55) from Bahia and São Paulo States, Brazil .
