Type material: Holotype male, ETHIOPIA: Addis Ababa, swarming over lawn, ix. 1983, A. D. Harrison ( ZMBN Type No. 428).

Diagnostic characters: The very well developed tongue-shaped superior volsella, together with the absence of an accessory lobe of the inferior volsella distinguish the male imago from other members of the group.

Etymology: From the Middle Latin (and Greek) bubo, a tumor, a swelling in the groin, and the Latin -atus, suffix meaning provided with, referring to the large superior volsella.

Male imago (n = 1)

All measurements and ratios within the range of variation of A. aizaiensis with the following exceptions and additions: Total length/wing length 1.77; AR 1.59; terminal flagellomere 531 µm long; tentorium ( Fig. 23 C View FIGURE 23 ) 137 µm long; stipes 126 µm long; anal lobe ( Fig. 23 A View FIGURE 23 ) strongly projecting, costal extension 9 µm long; R 4+5 ending well proximal to the apex of M 3+4; length hind tibial spur 48 µm; LR 3 0.53; BV 3 3.24; SV 3 3.61; anal point ( Fig. 23 E View FIGURE 23 ) 26 µm long, apex without microtrichia; transverse sternapodeme with well developed oral projections; gonocoxite with large bulge-like to tongue-shaped superior volsella reaching to 0.39 gonocoxite length; inferior volsella digitiform, reaching to 0.61 gonocoxite length, accessory lobe absent; gonostylus 64 µm long, with minute triangular, preapical crista dorsalis; HR 3.00; HV 2.79.
