Type species. Bolitochara brevicollis Kraatz, 1856 (fixed by Casey, 1906: 264).
Diagnosis. Body length 2.3–4.0 mm. Body more or less broad in dorsal outline, slightly depressed, slightly narrowed anteriorly and posteriorly. Head not distinctly narrowed behind eyes, neck absent. Prementum with two medial setae, arranged one directly behind the other; median pseudopore field narrow, without pseudopore. Pronotum transverse, 1.4–1.5 times as wide as long. Elytra with postero-lateral angles moderately sinuate. Hind wings with setose lobe on flabellum. Male tergite VII with long to short prominent medial carina. Posterior margin of male tergite VIII broadly emarginate, with 4 to 5 denticles in emargination on each side of midline. Male sternite VIII with posterior triangular projection, projection with asetose posterior margin. Aedeagus with elongate and slender apical process; internal sac without sclerotized internal plates; flagellum moderately long, tapering to an acute apex ( Ashe 1992).
