Type Locality: "Es bewohnt die Soara und andere Theile von Nordafrika hinter den Atlas, der Ritter Bruce behauptet, man fände es auch in tripolitanischen." .

Distribution: Chad, Egypt, Kuwait, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Saudia Arabia, Sudan, Tunisia.

Conservation: CITES – Appendix II; IUCN – Data Deficient.

Discussion: Reviewed by Larivière (2002 a) who did not recognize subspecies. Placed in Fennecus by Ellerman and Morrison-Scott (1951) and Stains (1975).
