Type Locality: Indonesia, Java, Tapos.

Vernacular Names: Brown Tube-nosed Bat.

Subspecies Murina (Murina) suilla subsp. canescens Thomas 1923

Distribution: Java, Sumatra, Borneo, W Malaysia, nearby small islands. Reports of this species from Sulawesi, Peleng Isl, and New Guinea are doubtfull, see discussion in Corbet and Hill (1992).

Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Subgenus Murina . Includes balstoni and canescens, see Koopman (1989 a) and Corbet and Hill (1992). See also Francis (1997).
