Callipallene sp.

Material examined. Townsville, Rowes Bay, in C. prolifera , 1 June 2000; three W, one X.

Description. These individuals are identical to those recently found at the same locality and to be described elsewhere (Lee and Arango, submitted). The species is distinguished by the absence of the third line of segmentation, the crurigers separated distally by twice their diameters, neck constricted, and especially by its extremely small size.

Distribution. Callipallene sp. is only known from intertidal algae around Townsville, Queensland.

Remarks. The most similar species seems to be C. tridens Nakamura and Child, 1986 according to the body size and shape, elevated ocular tubercle and indistinct segmentation between third and fourth segments.
