Asplenium cristatum Lam., Encycl. View in CoL 2(1): 310. 1786.
Range:— Florida; Antilles; Mexico to Bolivia ( CH, CO, LP, SC) and Brazil.
Ecology:— Fairly common; terrestrial, rarely epiphytic or on rocks, 250–1800 m (to 2400 m elsewhere).
Notes:— Asplenium haenkeanum (C.Presl) Hieron. , from Peru, may occur in Bolivia. It differs from A. cristatum by 2-pinnate blades, linear blade outline (vs. elliptic to elliptic-ovate), 3–6 pairs of pinnules per pinna (vs. 7–14 pairs), by its saxicolous habit, and by its occurrence above 2900 m. Specimens of A. cristatum with unusually small ultimate segments may be confused with Asplenium divaricatum Kunze from central Peru, which has bicolorous rhizome scales.
