Metacephalus albocrux View in CoL
( Figure 1 View FIGURE 1 )
Metacephalus albocrux DeLong & Martinson, 1973: 225 View in CoL , Figs. 1 View FIGURE 1 –6 (sp. nov.).
Diagnosis. Crown ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ) with distinct white cross-shaped marking on black background on anterior half. Pronotum ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ) with distinct paired subparallel longitudinal orange stripes. Pygofer lobes (Fig. 5) with apical processes with acute ventral point. Aedeagus (Figs. 9, 10) with shaft with broad preapical dorsal process and pair of elongate apical processes directed ventrally.
Measurements (mm). Males: body length, 5.3–5.5; crown length, 0.4–0.5; transocular width, 1.2–1.3; interocular width, 0.5–0.9; maximum pronotum width, 1.3–1.4; forewing length, 4.4–4.6. Females unknown.
Remarks. Metacephalus albocrux shares a very similar aedeagus structure with M. facetus comb. nov. and M. longispinus comb. nov., all having a very long preatrium and well developed dorsal apodeme, a broad preapical dorsal process on the shaft, and paired apical spiniform elongate processes directed ventrally. Additionally, their styles are bifid, with the mesal ramus longer than the lateral one and curved outward, a very common feature in Metacephalus species, e.g., also present in M. jenniferae comb. nov.
Holotype. PERU: Ucayali [Loreto in label]: Pucallpa , Aug 1962, V. T. VanVelzen, male, OSU.
