Type material. Holotype male (16.0 × 21.0 mm) (MNHN-IU-2014-10457, ex MNHN-B12793), Papua New Guinea, New Britain, Whiteman Range, Kandrian zone, Arrakis cave system, 300 m from entrance, on sandbar of river, 650 m, P. Jolivet coll., 1985.

Other material examined. Papua New Guinea. New Britain , Papua New Guinea, 1 paratype male (20.0 × 27.0 mm), 1 juvenile (5.0 × 8.5 mm) (MNHN-IU-2014-10458, ex MNHN-B12794), same data as holotype; 1 male (15.7 × 18.6 mm) ( ZRC 2015.294 View Materials , ex MNHN-IU-2013-13099, ex MNHN-B20136), Whiteman Mts. , Kandrian zone, cave in Arrakis System, Kukumbu hill, Association pyrénénne de Spéléolologie coll., 1987 ; 1 male (15.0 × 17.7 mm), 2 females (11.8 × 13.7 mm, 15.5 × 18.4 mm) (MNHN-IU-2013-13097, ex MNHN-B27890), 1 female (14.1 × 16.8 mm) ( ZRC 2015.295 View Materials ), Whiteman Mts. , Kauchian region, Kandrian zone, cave in Arrakis System, 650 m from entrance, Akenatan Gulf, S. Diagnosis. As for genus.

Remarks. Trogloplax joliveti is a freshwater, blind, troglobitic species that is presumed to have evolved from a marine ancestor rather than from a freshwater or terrestrial one ( Guinot 1986: 307). The species has only been recorded from a sand bank bordering freshwater in an inland karst cave in New Britain, Papua New Guinea ( Guinot 1986). A female specimen (MNHN-IU-2013-13097) had a conspicuous sperm plug.

Distribution. Only known from Papua New Guinea (New Britain), inland cave.
