TYPE SPECIES. — Componaster spurius n. sp., by monotypy.
ETYMOLOGY. — Latin, compono, put together, mix, unite, in reference to the combining of expressions typical of both asteroids and ophiuroids; and Latin, aster, star ( Brown 1956: 528).
