Discussion: Whether this monotypic genus represents "the most primitive of the living rabbits and hares" ( Fa and Bell, 1990), or is closer to the more specialized leporids ( Sylvilagus , Oryctolagus , Lepus ) ( Corbet, 1983), or is intermediate ( Hibbard, 1963), remains controversial.
