Distribution. Cryptogenic. Cosmopolitan; Galápagos: Santa Cruz.
Remarks. The Galápagos specimens represented the first Neotropical record of this species ( Wheeler 1995). This is primarily a shoreline species, breeding in decaying seaweed ( Wheeler 1995). This species is also recorded from the Juan Fernandez Islands (only known South American records of this species) and is the only sphaerocerid species known from both islands ( Marshall 1997a).
