Bathyplax typhlus oculiferus Miers 1885: 586 View in CoL ; 1886: 230, pl. XX, fig. 3.
Remarks. Miers (1885: 586) described the taxon as:-
“... also a very interesting variety (oculiferus) of the West Indian deep-water Bathyplax typhlus , A. M.-E., in which the ocular corneae, although small, are distinctly bilobed. Milne-Edwards’ types, is to be noted, were dredged in deeper water.”
A more detailed description with a figure of the type dredged off Brazil were published later by Miers (1886: 230, pl. XX, fig. 3). Bathyplax typhlus oculiferus Miers, 1885 , is therefore the senior name. Nevertheless, Tavares (1996) collected new material from Brazil, examined the variety of Miers and synonymised it with the nominal species.
Valid as Bathyplax typhla A. Milne-Edwards, 1880 .
