Stenus aereus Solsky, 1871 Fig. 9 View Figures 7–12 , Suppl. material 1
Chorology.
Stenus aereus is distributed in Caucasia, the Middle East, Central Asia, and West Siberia. In Iran, it apparently is a rare species, which we did not succeed to collect. The record from West Azarbaijan published by Samin et al. (2011b: 140) is plausible in view of the record from East Azarbaijan (Fig. 9 View Figures 7–12 ), but needs confirmation.
Biogeographical characterization.
Kastcheev and Puthz (2011: 454) term Stenus aereus a Kazakhstan-Turanian species. According to the hypothesis of Pleistocene refuges, we consider it to be an expansive Turkestanian faunal element, which dispersed towards the Mediterranean.
