Type species. Eornithoica grimaldii View in CoL sp. nov.
Etymology. The new generic name is taken from the Ancient Greek goddess of the dawn, Ēṓs (Ἠώς, and from which the Eocene epoch derives its name), the genus name Ornithoica . The gender of the name is feminine.
Diagnosis. Body, especially abdomen, and legs with numerous stout spines; dorsal segmentation of thorax not completely obliterated; wings fully developed; eight long and stout spurs on costal margin of wing; R1 short, R4+5 reaching wing margin distally, with a broad cell between R2+3 and R4+5; pretarsal claws with weakly developed basal heels; abdomen with three large transverse dorsal sclerotized plates.
